Bosque del Apache; on my list since last December. I finally went when our scout troop decided to plan a winter campout there. Campfire, stew, farts and breakfast burritos built the typical camping scenario but when we got up before sunrise to witness thousands of our wet feathered friends take instant flight from a half frozen pond, the trip became worth a night on the cold ground. When the sun starts to crest the mountains to the east the geese start chattering. Bird talk gets louder and louder until, in a moment of sudden agreement, they take off in a thundering mass. I recommend taking the trip just over one hour south of Albuquerque to experience it for yourself but until you can, enjoy these photos.
