Portland eats

One of our favorite things about visiting large cities is the food. Ok, let's be honest, one of Chance's favorite things about visiting large cities is the diversity of excellent culinary options non-existent in small towns in Idaho.

Byways Cafe: 1212 NW Glisan
Byways Cafe (featured on Food Network's Diners, Drives and Dives) was an excellent choice for lunch. The atmosphere - classic and local. The food - deliciously filling. Absolutely an option for future visits. Common to most Portland restaurants, Byways' menu includes vegan and vegetarian options which satisfied the company eating with us. Sckavone's: 4100 SE Division
There's no way we could visit Portland, or any city within two hours of the coast, and not order fish. Friday night we were treated to dinner at Sckavone's, a historic drugstore turned restaurant in SE Portland established by an Italian immigrant in 1930. The Fish n' Chips were heavenly. So good, were the fish n chips, that it will be hard to order the same platter at any other restaurant (unless in England) in fear of altering our memory of the dish. http://www.sckavones.com/history.htm

Porqe no?: 4635 SE Hawthorne
Authentic? Why yes indeed. Porque no comes complete with virgin mary statues and figurines along with Day of the Dead decor and lively painted walls. This sustainably conscious restaurant not only cares for the environment and their waste as a business but their dishes were simply amazing. After a healthy first helping of Flautas Carnitas, it was extremely tempting to wait in line again just to order a second helping.
